Large Infected Cyst - Great.. What Next?Views: 358

About a week ago I noticed a hard lump on my right side. I was worried it might be a tumor at first except for as far as I know they don’t cause pain. I have been kind of ignoring it because I knew I would see my oncologist on Monday. He took 1 look at it and sent me to Moffitt to see the surgeon. (no chemo today. yeaa)

The surgeon came in on his off clinic day to check it out. It turns out it was an infection from where the drain tubes were. The drain tube has been out for quite awhile so I don’t know why it started growing 1/2 an inch a day all of a sudden. By Monday it was about 3” long and 3” across, really red and hot and very painful so I figured it was probably some kind of infection.

At first the doctor thought it might be an infection in the liver that was working toward the outside. Thank god that wasn’t the case. The surgeon cut it open, drained it and packed it with gause. It hurt like hell. For some reason everytime they use that local it never works on me, it was the same way with the drain tube I screamed and cried and felt all of it. They have a home health care nurse coming over the house for the next week to repack it and he gave me antibiotics which should take care of it.

I decided to take a vacation from cancer. I will do 2 more treatments and have a scan but that is it for 3 or 4 months. No doctors, no scans, no chemo.

I was diagnosed July ‘05. Almost 2 years ago and in that time I have had 11 months of chemo, spent 6 mos recovering from 3 different surgeries and had 3 re-occurances. Not to mention over 25 scans and numerous doctor appts.

Cancer has taken up enough of my life. I am taking it back. I am sick of being sick. I will visit family, take trips and a cruise or 2. If it causes my death so be it. I have not really been living the last 2 years any way just existing.

I will try to be better about updating this. With everything going on and tring to work as much as possible, I haven’t had much time for the computer at home after being on it at work.

Donna – good for you for taking a vacation, you deserve it! Enjoy your trips. Look forward to hearing from you again.

It looks like you got the bull by the horns. Go get him.
